Johnson, Rodney & Solea
Rodney was born and raised in the Chicago area in a Christian home. Solea was born in San Francisco, but moved to Salem, Oregon when she was six. Rodney and Solea met when they were studying theology and cross-cultural communication in Chicago. They married in 1992. In 1997 they moved to Costa Rica where they studied culture and Spanish for a year, and in 1998 they moved to Montevideo, Uruguay. During their first several years in Uruguay they worked with Marriage Encounter through SIM. After several years in Uruguay, the Johnsons' saw a great need within Uruguayan society for tools which would help strengthen marriage and parent-child relationships.
In 2003 Rodney began studying marriage and family therapy and also was trained in "Parenting with Love & Logic." In 2004 the Johnsons' began training Uruguayan parents, teachers, pastors and psychologists with this parenting tool. Rodney received his Master's Degree in Human Resources with an emphasis in marriage and family in 2010. Rodney and Solea have been involved in counseling, parent training and coaching while at the same time, working towards the establishment of a community of faith which is both biblical and culturally appropriate to the Uruguayan context.
Rodney and Solea have two kids. Ryan is 19 and in his first year of college at Corban University, and Cassie is 13 1/2 and is a freshman in high school. The Johnsons' home base is Salem, Oregon.
Fun Factoid: Prior to residing in Montevideo, Rodney was a professional car builder. He is credentialed in auto-body, paint and collision repair and worked in this field for 12 years prior to leaving the U.S. Rodney plays the cello. Solea, although born in San Francisco, lived in Greece for the first 5 years of her life and also spent a year in high school living in Uruguay as an exchange student. Solea loves quilting!
