The Malasaña Project officially started in 2009. Before that point it was a prayer group at Oasis Madrid Church that met for a summer and prayed about how we could begin to bless and meet the needs of the millions of people who live in our city and speak Spanish. By the end of the summer we had come up with a question, "What would it take for us to build significant and meaningful relationships with Spanish speakers in Madrid who do not consider themselves followers of Jesus?"

We answered the question together with a few very practical things like...we would want to focus ourselves on a neighborhood, move there, and spend lots of time out in the neighborhood building friendships in the places and places where our neighbors felt comfortable and at home. So, that's what we've been doing. We're a small team of five people + some others who are involved to varying degrees. We've committed to living in the Malasaña neighborhood (see links about Malasaña below). We spent most of the last year praying for and studying the neighborhood to identify where are the "hubs" in the neighborhood where people gather and then joining in there and making friends. This year we hope to involve ourselves in more concrete initiatives that will both bless and create space for spiritual exploration specifically within the arts community in Malasaña.

We're also committed to caring for each other, and felt like living in proximity would help us to "do life together" more easily and naturally. We pray in the square in our neighborhood three times a week. We also have a Bible study and worship time together on Saturday afternoons. Our teammates also have weekly mentoring times and a Tues. night leadership/discipleship workshop. We welcome interns! A basic level of Spanish is required
