17 Baptisms on Easter!

Easter Sunday, and one by one they came. Eight women and nine men… 17 new Muslim-background followers of Jesus from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria came to the water for baptism. Each of them, one by one, were asked five baptismal questions and each of them answered "Yes” each time. "Baleh," yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! Some of them shouted it out, some whispered, some were tearful. It took a long time. But in Middle Eastern culture it is important not to rush through such moments.
Alya came out of the Baptismal waters with tears streaming down her face. Originally from Iran, Alya’s story of finding Jesus includes being a refugee in the United Kingdom, connecting with one of our Communitas churches, being loved and discipled, and finding her heavenly Father in the midst of confusion, abuse, grief, and anger. Will you pray for Alya and 16 other new followers of Jesus?
Our Easter gathering began and ended with the Resurrection Shout… three times, each louder than the previous… "He is Risen! He is Risen, Indeed!” One sweet eleven year old boy named Fathi, as we embraced in a concluding group hug, said aloud in English, "This is the best day of my life.”
